| A Matryoshka Holiday |
[Dec. 20th, 2009|12:25 pm] |
Taking directions from this website, I decided to make matryoshka (Russian nesting doll) holiday greeting cards this year.
First, I created a template (they also provide one on the linked website) and cut out a bunch of oulines on patterned cardstock (it was pretty difficult to find this, but I found some books of it at Michael's. I also did okay with some patterned paper which was stiffer than regular paper but not quite cardstock).

hey all! just wondering if PearlEx pigments are essentially the same as micas you can get from Coastal Scents, TKB Trading, etc.
I've never bought any PearlEx so I'm not sure if it's pure mica, or if it has some specific carrier/binder/filler that makes it more suited to various artistic applications.
Has anyone used cosmetic micas from TKB, etc., for their crafts/art? |

| Spread the Cheer! |
[Dec. 19th, 2009|06:24 pm] |
Since our house is a disaster area (okay okay it's really 'cause we're poor, but I'm pretending it's because we're getting organized) we don't have a Christmas Tree or a Yule Altar or a Hannukiah so everyone PLEASE POST PICTURES of your tree or holiday decorations in the comments! |

| Lego Advent Day 19: The Allure of RC |
[Dec. 19th, 2009|07:38 pm] |
I open my present today to see he's opened his as well.

Minifigure with accessory included. I've bitten the last 18 times, I'll bite once more.

'Tis a fairly nondescript Lego brat, inarticulate legs and all, with an RC cart I've frankly got my doubts about.

Fortunately that weird little green kid from down the street is willing to give him a push. |

| Pyat engages Holiday Mode |
[Dec. 19th, 2009|11:09 am] |
It's been an incredibly busy couple of days. Thursday, I drove into Toronto to visit with kores_rabbit. She showed me Tenacious D episodes! Later, we hooked up with commanderteddog for an evening of fish and chips and MST3K.
Teddog brought us to "The Olde Yorke," the best fish and chip place I've been to in ages, despite the silly olde timey name. I helpfully smashed her camera and threw it into pocket dimension.
We then ventured to the Mystery Loblaw's and loaded up on comestibles for the evening. We watched a Robot Chicken Star Wars DVD ("Gentlemen! Good manners are their own reward!"), and Teddog received a phone call from mbehemoth, who was in the neighbourhood with his wife for her birthday dinner.
Teddog invited them over, and shortly after we were also joined by kores_rabbit's husband, Jonathan. We all watched the MST3K version of Santa Claus.

kores_rabbit making an extremely obscure MST3K joke, and it's not "I'm your biggest fan."
I finally got home after midnight, and rose early to get velvetpage and the girls to their respective "last day of school" events. I think I was in the house for all of 45 minutes between 8 AM and 4 PM. Claire and I visited Elizabeth at school for her class party. The evening held Claire's Christmas recital, which took place at my old high school, and ruiskafleck's birthday party...

| Arnie! |
[Dec. 19th, 2009|09:29 am] |
Someone had made an Arnie the Donut on here a few months ago that was so cute! My 5 year old niece is a huge Arnie fan so I made her a stuffed donut to play with. ( take a bite ) I'm off work due to snow today! I plan to spend the day sewing and crocheting the last of the christmas presents (everyone is getting a warm scarf and comfy pajama pants) |

| Anything But Blue |
[Dec. 19th, 2009|05:19 am] |
I've been thinking about this for weeks now. Let's say I have to show you the salient features of my year, and I had to use a song I've heard. Let's say I can have only one song, one chance.
The song I would play for you would be "A Gift for Melody Anne", by the Avett Brothers. Without a doubt.
If you like, tell me a song and I'll seek it out and listen to it. |
